Currently they are in the “hot box” (the gym with no A/C). They are building a game strategy that is basically a constant press. As a team we will not sit back and react, but instead go out and create opportunities. We are expecting to play top university and select teams in Colombia so we want to be a prepared as we can be.
Not only will our team have the challenge of competition in basketball, but we will in a completely new and unfamiliar culture. That means a different language, different food, different pace of life, and different people. The one huge advantage is that one of our players, Erika Valek, is as she says "100% Colombian."
She came with her family to the States when she was about 10 years old. Erika has been and will be a great asset as we learn about the culture of Colombia and what to expect. (Funny for example, toilet paper does is thrown in a trashcan next to the toilet.) You should have seen the girls' response when they heard that.
This afternoon we will look at Principle #2 – Inside Game. The scripture, Luke 15:11-32, will be the basis for our discipleship time.
For dinner the Director of AIA Basketball, Eric N., and his wife are hosting us at their home. It should prove to be a great time as we will be able to hear stories from some of the other basketball teams (15 total) that have went overseas this summer.
