Hey! This is Tabi.
Today was very exhausting but full of surprises. We got an early start rolling out of bed at 6:45. We left for a university in Leon at 7:30 which was two hours away. Most of the way there we slept. We were told that we would be playing a team in both volleyball and soccer. Once we got there it was extremely hot!! We all went into one of the class rooms where Katie and I shared our testimony(again using some spanish). It's amazing to see how God has been working, for most of us sharing our testimony was the scariest thing to do, but now we are glad to do it and He has given us strength. After talking with some of the people in charge we had our first surprise of the day. We found out that we would be playing volleyball and soccer against their volleyball team...not their soccer team. First we played volleyball...it was a learning experience. The first game we scored 2 points, and the second we scored 1(i think). After losing to them in volleyball we got fired up because we didn't want them to win. Each game has 2 halves of 10 min. each. For the first game they brought in high school team to play against us. Kaite scored the game winning goal with just a few seconds left to wil the game 5-4. Katie had a total of 4 goals and I (Tabi) had 1. At this point we were very tired and didn't have much energy left, but we pulled it off. The second game we played against their volleyball team which was much easier. They didn't know how to stop us and eventually added two guys to help them out, but they werent able to stop us. The final score was 4-2, with Ellie scoring her first goal of the trip. Later we found out that our game highlights would be shown on a Campus Crusade T.V. program that is aired regularly with a potential viewing audience of 500,000 people!(and after the first game they interviewed Katie about what the mission out the team was)
After the games we went out to a very nice local restarant. First they brought us appetizers, and after that none of of thought we could eat anymore. When our meals came out we were shocked! They were enormous, and no one was able to eat very much of it, but they were very delicious. As a result, we got the food in some to-go boxes and gave the food to people who needed it.
Next, they wanted to surprise us again! They drove us another 30 min to the BEACH!!! We were all very excited and ran straight into the water to get our feet wet. After taking some pictures and walking around in the water, us girls (Emily, Paige, Ellie, Katie, and I) decided that we were going to make a run into the waves. It was so much fun, despite the salt in the water. But it was definately a nice break and very relaxing. They took us up on the rocks and some higher places to get a better view to take pictures of the water and the sunset, which were gorgeous!! We were dissapointed when we had to leave but we had a great time.
Today was our last official day of ministry which is sad because we all were enjoying the schools and orphanages that we visited, and all the relationships we were able to make. Tomorrow we will doing some site seeing, I think we will be visiting a volcano, and we have heard that there is a zip line we can do for $20!! We are excited to come back home to the U.S.(and eat some American food), but we have had such a productive time watching God use each of us in a different way. I have enjoyed watching everyone step out of their comfort zone and take a step of faith relying on God's strength.
