On the Courts of Kathmandu

Greetings from Nepal!

We have officially spent our first night and full day (Tuesday) here in Nepal!  I must admit that it was quite refreshing to not have to hop on a plane for the first time since Friday.  We woke up in the beautiful Kathmandu Valley and its many many people that call this city home.  The city gets hustling and bustling extremely early as many people make their way to their workplaces.  Because of the heavy population, the city is full of noise as the sun rises and brings shape to this beautiful area.

Today we were able to get on the tennis courts for the first time since we left Ohio.  It felt great to play off some of our jet lag in the high altitude air.  We also had the opportunity to play with some of the national level junior tennis players here in Nepal that we competed against and helped coach during our last trip to Nepal!  It brought us great joy to reconnect with some familiar faces!  Unfortunately, the tennis tournament that we had planned to play in during our time here was cancelled on short notice.  We were saddened to hear that we will be unable to compete in a formal tournament, but we are thrilled to be able to still partake in tennis "friendly" matches.  We will also help teach tennis clinics to children of all ages and levels, building on the work that we started during our trip here in 2007.  We will work with the coaches of Nepal to help establish and teach tennis stratgegies, mechanics, and help develop a few conditioning programs.

We also had an opportunity to explore the city for a bit on Tuesday afternoon.  We are staying in an area of the city where there are many shops.  This area is visited by many tourists and is full of many shops that carry a wide range of items, many of them which are handmade by the Nepalese.  Thanks for reading with our blog.  We hope to have more updates soon. Stay tuned.....
